I'm a Void 02:32
I'm a void. I'm avoiding you. I'm avoiding universally accepted truths. You're afraid you're a fraying line, one my weight pulls taught to break in time. And I don't know what to sing that can help us to forget about everything. You're okay, occasionally right. But I've put to rest my best dog in this fight. And I'm alone, a lonely dangling fruit. But I'll sing in pain the joys of solitude. And I haven't got the time to explain to myself why you should be mine. And I haven't got the guts to tell my brain to just shut up and love. But I'm not in love. There's a light, there's enlightenment. And one day I'm gonna shine a light most brilliant. I'm a void, I can't avoid the truth that when I get home there's no you to come back to.

A northern wind, a summer sun, an argument's begun. Oh no, will the wind come to blows? And each would think themselves the champ, the stronger of the two. But who's there to settle this feud? A solitary traveler upon a dusty road, clutching to a silvery coat. The sun defied the wind to knock the man from out his dress. The wind, never one to rescind a challenge he's sure to win, huffed and puffed out his chest. "But I got on my winter coat, so chill me down to my bones. And I hope a cold wind blows strong enough to carry me back home." The wind subsided to a lull, the man held to his coat. Oh no, let the sun have a go. She lays her rays upon the ground and clears the sky of clouds, and soon as the man came attuned to the warm afternoon he laid his coat on the ground. “So I’ll take off my winter coat and bask in the summer glow. I hope this sunshine holds long enough to get myself back home.” If you want things done your way, it’s easier to persuade than to force it in rage.

Statistically, you might be one of a hundred only ones. I’m terrified I’ll decide and get it wrong. I want to believe in something like serendipity. I want love to find me. On a walk in the park, they’ll come up and hit me with a car. Then, I don’t know, coffee? I won’t be satisfied if we’re only born to die, but statistically you might be one of a hundred only ones. I’m terrified I’ll decide and get it wrong. Do all the math, take a nap. I’ll call up a psychic medium, ask ‘em if it’s better with a different one. Unless, I suppose, you pack up your shit and hit the road. Turned to a ghost. But there’s no dignity in forever wondering ‘bout the people & the things that could have been. But why are you running with nowhere to go? And can you believe the improbable? There is no certainty but what you feel. Ostensibly, you & me are playing the cosmic lottery, and I’m all in.

Lover sees a thundercloud ahead, they went to prepare & I went back to bed. I heard ‘em slam the door. Later on the weatherman made the call, he said it’s the storm that will end them all. Well, I’ve been wrong before. Imagine you & me tangled up in sheets, but I look and she’s outside my window with the lights down way too low. And back before we used to know that the sky we’d view would be a different hue, and maybe it’s too soon to cross that threshold where we both get swallowed whole. And lover’s on the other side of town, the roads are flooded and the power is down. Don’t wanna think about them all alone, covered up with fright. With one more chance could I make it alright? You don’t need me, just leave me, let me go. You don’t need me, just leave me the fuck alone. You don’t need me just leave me, let me go. You don’t need me, just leave me all alone.

They called you a writer, you got carried away on the page. They saw what you wrote and dismayed, the facts tend to get in the way. So they called you a liar, a phony, a fake. Thrown away, the bottles, the bags undecayed. They gave us the prices to pay, but we’ve got the funds. A credit card statement with no minimum. And when the shopping’s all done, stores will foreclose. When it’s time to go, the soil will eat through your bones. And it happens like that, a turn of the screw, passing old hats. The animals dying en masse ‘til there’s nothing left to extract. And just so we’re clear, once they can handle the final frontier they’ll be leaving you here. Stores will foreclose. When it’s time to go, the soil will eat through your bones. Two more degrees. Salting the earth under family trees, enjoying the breeze. When it’s time to go, you can’t take it with you, I know.
